Angus began his career in industry, following ten years in a variety of positions in marketing and corporate planning, he was appointed to the Board of Valin Pollen Ltd and in 1989 he became Chairman and Chief Executive of its parent company, the VPI Group Plc, a publicly listed UK corporate communications consultancy.
In 1991 Angus was appointed Worldwide Vice Chairman of Burson-Marsteller Inc, the first non-American to be appointed to its main Board. He directed the firm's world-wide corporate and financial communications practice.
In January 1994, Angus founded his own strategic advisory consultancy in London, today’s maitland/amo.
Angus served as an adviser to the Greenbury and Higgs Corporate Governance Inquiries, the Myners Report on UK Institutional Investment and the Clementi Review of the Regulatory Framework for Legal Services in England and Wales. He is the author and joint author of a number of publications on marketing, and investor and public relations.
In 2010 Angus was named M&A Communications Adviser of the decade (2001-2010) by Mergermarket and won the Sabre Award for Lifetime Achievement in Public Relation
